ABOUT ROUEN

Rouen is the capital of Normandy. With 110,000 inhabitants in the heart of the country's 6th largest metropolis, it is France's 36th largest city and a leading economic centre.

Its rich history can still be seen in the streets of the city, which boasts a remarkable heritage of historic buildings, including the cathedral, the Gros Horloge, the Aître Saint-Maclou and the timber-framed houses that dot the city centre. An industrial city, Rouen is also France's 5th largest port, with a strong focus on grain traffic.

A city of ‘Art and History’, Rouen is also a dynamic city: a university town with several campuses hosting 45,000 students and a city of culture with 12 museums (including the Musée des Beaux-Arts), creative centres and cultural venues. Rouen is now looking to the future. It has embarked on a major development project with Le Havre and Paris as part of the Axe-Seine. Recently selected by UNESCO to join the network of creative cities in the field of gastronomy, it is also aiming to develop tourism. And at a time of major climate change, Rouen is committed to an ambitious social and ecological transition plan.
