At 1:21 PM on Wednesday, June 3rd, skipper Pier Paolo Dean informed race control of his retirement. The skipper of Banques Alimentaires, facing problems with his headsail and a tear in his mainsail, is unable to round Hands Deep. He is currently sailing directly towards Le Havre.

The skipper is doing well, but is extremely disappointed to have to make this decision just hours before the finish. Pier Paolo is the seventh solo sailor in this leg to be forced to abandon the race.
