While sailing in thirteenth position in the final leg of the Solitaire du Figaro Paprec, Edouard Golbery was dismasted at 3:20 PM in a 35-38 knot squall. The sailor is unharmed, and the mast has been freed to prevent damage to the hull in these rough sea conditions. Edouard Golbery managed to start the engine, and the British rescue service dispatched a lifeboat to assist him.
Conditions in the English Channel are calming down slightly, although some squalls persist. The entire fleet is demonstrating excellent seamanship by sharing information and remaining vigilant towards one another.
