ABOUT ROUEN
Rouen is the capital of Normandy. With today 115,000 inhabitants in the heart of the 10th largest metropolis in the country, it is the 36th largest city in France and is a leading economic hub.
Its very rich history is still visible in the streets of the city which is home to a remarkable historical built heritage, such as the cathedral, the Gros-Horloge, the Saint-Maclou aître or even all the half-timbered houses which crisscross the downtown. Industrial, Rouen is also the 5th French port, resolutely focused on grain traffic.
City of “Art and History”, Rouen is also a city with a very present dynamism: university city with several campuses welcoming 45,000 students and city of culture with 12 museums (including the Museum of Fine Arts), places of cultural creation and dissemination. Rouen is now looking towards its future. It is launched into a major development project with Le Havre and Paris as part of the Axis-Seine. Recently selected by UNESCO to integrate the network of creative cities in the gastronomic field, it also aims to develop tourism. And at a time of major climate challenges, Rouen is engaged in an ambitious social-ecological transition plan.
