Change Of Course Planned for Stage 2 to Roscoff

Published on 09/06/2019

Due to the forecasts for strong winds in the Irish Sea over the coming days and the fact that the Figaro Beneteau 3s are new and relatively untested in such conditions, Race Direction for La Solitaire URGO Le Figaro in agreement with the race organisers, have made the decision to set a different course for Stage 2, from Kinsale to Roscoff.

The start remains set at 1700hrs local time this afternoon. A meeting for the 45 skippers will be held at 1130hrs when a new course will be announced. The Isle of Man, which has been set as a northernmost turning mark on several previous occasions, will not be on the new course. Strong tidal current in the Saint George’s Channel, the stretch of water between SW Wales and SE Ireland between the Irish Sea and the Celtic Sea, would make for big, unruly seas in the strong northerlies forecast.
