The Urban Community of Dunkirk includes 18 municipalities. It offers access to boating for all, making it possible in the Dunkirk area to practice sailing, cruising, kite-surfing, sand-yachting, rowing ... The Community is organising two major sailing events in 2011 with the start of the Tour de France à la Voile from 24th to 26th June and the Freestyle Kite-surf French Championship from 20th to 24th July. The Community, chaired by Michel Delebarre, is also a partner of the "Courrier Dunkerque" crew, 2010 World Champion and currently preparing his new yacht.
