His sponsor
If today the Vendée General Council is Sébastien Josse’s sponsor, it is mainly because the Vendée is widely recognised as the sailing department and the most important nautical events take place in the Vendée region. In twenty years and in six editions, the Vendée Globe, that starts and finishes in Les Sables d’Olonne, has become the “one and only” race for all single-handed sailors. The last edition recorded an unprecedented record participation with more than 30 competitors on the starting line. Another very important sailing event is La Solitaire du Figaro, also connected to the Vendée for many years and in 2011, the race will go back once more to the region hosting a stopover. As a training base for the champions of future editions of the great seagoing epics, the Vendée has created a new offshore racing centre in Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, in the harbour where Bénéteau, the one design Figaro boat builder is based.
