Yann Eliès on Generali Europ Asistance crosses the line in second place

Yann Eliès crossed the finish line in Gijón at the end of the first leg at precisely 01:29:04 in second place behind Brit Air.

Although Generali Europ Assistance finishes second in Gijón a minimum 30 minute time penality will be imposed after the jury meet in Brest to hear the case of broken engine seal. Elies was forced to use the engine to get move the boat off before on the turning tide and rejoin the race safely ran aground in the Finisterre.

Yann managed to grab the lead early on along the Cotentin coastline twenty-four hours into the start of the race and remained close to the leaders throughout. Running aground on Thursday, having just moved back into the lead meant a huge shock so this second place finish is a remarkable feat and achievement.
